Spring has finally surfaced in Regnum, the mass amount of ice and snow slowly beginning to vanish as the flowers take over. Though the rivers still contain some ice and many buildings have fallen to ground due to the earthquake, the colours of spring has managed to make the place seem a tad bit peaceful. Perhaps it's a sign that things will be getting better again soon.

It came so suddenly and without warning throughout the dead of the night: A sudden pulse throughout the city, followed by another and another. By the time people knew what was happening, a large earthquake shook the city, causing buildings to tumble, grounds to crack and shift and, worse of all, the city borders to collapse. Many lives were lost, others injured and lives completely changed forever.

The power plant in Regnum is still down, but some groups have gotten together with electric Pokemon to help restore some of the electricity to the city. It is suggested not to walk the streets alone as the crime rates have sky rocketed despite the efforts of the Enforcement Wing. Phones and internet is still down, but people have started finding other ways to communicate for the time being. In good news, the weather has begun to warm up, the snow and ice finally melting. Sadly, the barrier is still blocking people from leaving the city.

He hadn't really been interested in attending the charity event. After all, it would require him to talk to people that he didn't know, most of which would probably ask him to explain how he was in the position he was in. Sure. Sure, he liked to tell people, but he also didn't. Recounting the same story more than once a night would be too tiresome for the young scientist. Besides! He thought he had been making a break through with the fog! But thanks to his dad telling him that: "It's really for the best if you go. I would've gone when I was a Head Scientist.", he was at the Charity Event.

He really would've loved to just to to the museum, purely to be able to look at the exhibits. Alas, that was not possible this night. His slacks were uncomfortable; the long-sleeved dress shirt made him fidget; the vest needed to be constantly straightened; the bowtie felt a little too snug; not too mention that his shoes weren't worn in enough. Even with all that wrong, that didn't stop him from smiling politely as he answered question after question about the fog and his job and what he was doing. Kaden had been offered a flute of champagne nearly ten minutes ago, and yet it still was just as full as it had been.

It was not widely known, but the young man was not a drinker. In fact, he would be considered a lightweight as just two flutes of champagne could get him to start feeling tipsy. This was something that he wanted to avoid for tonight. A beep from his phone caused him to ask the woman he was speaking to to hold on for a moment. He acted like he was answering it as he started to walk off. With a sigh he clicked it shut and gave it a small smile. "Thanks, Haskell." There was another beep before Kaden slid the phone in. You see, all his Pokémon were at home...minus one certain Porygon that was here to pull him out of uncomfortable conversations. That last one had been terrible. He gave a shudder at the suggestion she had given before his eyes landed on a familiar person.

Finally. Finally someone that he had met and knew. Sure their first interaction hadn't gone super smooth, but maybe this would be different? He slid up next to the taller man, a simple smile on his face to accompany the slight joy he had felt. "Well, if it isn't Inigo. How is this party treating you so far?" He glanced up at him, smiling over the edge of the flute as he took a small sip.

FOREVER
HERE'S TO EVERYTHING COMING TO NOTHING

Despite appearing the type to enjoy attending formal events, Inigo had little desire to attend the charity event. Yet there was a backbreaking obligation for him to be present, as the council was the one to host it. So, there he was—navy tuxedo and all—engaging in brief conversation with a number of the attendees. He was pleasant enough, greeting each person he spoke to with a smile and salutations, then thanked them for coming tonight and wished them a wonder after their discussion came to an end. Afterward, he would either start speaking to the next person, or wander the floor until he ended up in conversation again. As he did so, he kept a sharp eye out for disorderliness. Be it a table moved slightly to the left from its original position to an out-of-place glass to scraps of food on the ground, the young man was sure to take care of it in an instant. For such a formal event, he was incredibly disappointed by how untidy some of the guests were.

However, the lack of order was the least of Inigo's issues with the event. He received a visual reminder as one of the enforcers passed by him. They, among with the other enforcers, had dressed in loose or scanty clothing and wore Buneary ears and tails. Only one appeared differently—dressed as a maid rather than something out of Playboy—but that was because she had the height and face of a child. Inigo had to admit that at least they had some decency to dress her that way, but he still couldn't fathom why anyone would think up such a tasteless idea. Using fanservice to get more attendees was cheap and possibly humiliating to some of the enforcers, as well as the members of the council who disapproved. If he had had any say, he would've protested against the idea as much as humanly possible. But alas, Inigo was only a secretary; he doubted his word would have much of an impact.

The young man sighed, deciding to try to think of something else other than the enforcers. He stared across where he was without focusing on any particular person or thing. Thus, the figure that had appeared next to him had slightly caught him off guard. He jolted his head to the side the moment he heard his name, and remained briefly confused until he glanced down. At once, his shoulders tensed at the sight of the young Head Scientist whom he embarrassed himself in front of. Though he still felt uncomfortable over his faux pas, he knew it would be rude not to acknowledge him. "Good evening, Mr. Knox," he said as he attempted to smile. Inigo remained quiet for a moment as he decided what to say next. "It's treating me well. How are you enjoying it?" It was a lie, of course, but it wasn't like he could confess how he felt to someone he didn't know particularly well. Besides, he was technically a host; it would be unbecoming of him to speak badly about the event to attendees—no matter who they were.

Without him wanting it to, his nose scrunched up at the name that Inigo called him by. He glanced up at the man as he took another sip. By this point the flute of champagne was half gone, only a few more sips and he'd be done. He was hoping he didn't have to grab another, but that all depended on what else this night had to offer. "I thought I asked you not to call me that." He turned to look back at the crowd as his face smoothed back out. The next of what he had to say came out as a mumble, "it makes me feel weird since that's what people call my dad."

Either way, he ended up giving a small shrug as he took yet another sip; he really couldn't help it by now, the taste was too good to pass up. What could he say about this that wouldn't sound too bad? "The set up is nice, as is the thought behind it. But," he paused in the middle of his sentence to gesture towards a red-headed officer who was chatting it up with two other individuals. "I feel as if everything wasn't fully thought out. Having people who are supposed to be highly respected, dress like bunnies is sure an odd way of going about this. Doesn't it devalue what they do for their job?" He paused for a moment to consider how to word what he wanted to say next. His face tilted into a thoughtful gaze.

"Sure. Having them serve is okay. But dressing them up like they are the toys and pawns of the Council seems like the wrong way to go." He seemed to snap back into himself as his eyes took that moment to widen. What the hell was he doing?! This guy was a member of the Council. What if he had been someone behind the idea?! Instantly his head turned to look up at the person next to him. His words seemed to jumble together as he tried to form some sort of an apology. "What I mean to say- That didn't- It isn't- I...Um.." Well, he was only twenty. Sure he was a top scientist, but that didn't mean that his age didn't show. He quickly tipped back the rest of the flute to shut himself up...he didn't want to make a bigger fool of himself.

FOREVER
HERE'S TO EVERYTHING COMING TO NOTHING

...Ah, right, Inigo had forgotten that Kaden had preferred to be called by his given name rather than his surname. The man let out a small sigh; he disliked being informal with people he hardly knew—and especially those who happened to be superior to him. However, he had to respect the other man's wishes, so that was what he'd do. (Not that he couldn't still retain some formality, though...) Inigo shifted his attention back to the scientist as he continued to speak. He had gone off on a tangent regarding the gala; however, unlike those who praised the setup—and the council's decision to dress the enforcers the way they were in particular—Kaden was criticizing it. The young man raised an eyebrow. Has he forgotten with whom he is sharing his opinion? Inigo couldn't help but nod slightly at his inner musings. Though he held the highest title within the Science Wing, he was still young and not as worldly as others.

It hadn't taken long for Kaden to realize that he was rattling off criticism of the council to one of its own members. Admittedly, Inigo felt slightly smug hearing him trip over his words as he attempted to form an apology. The feeling didn't last long, however, as the other man's words resonated with his thoughts on the gala. Inigo let out a sigh before speaking. "There's no need to apologize. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion." He pondered whether to share his own beliefs: While he preferred to keep his opinions on council-related decisions private, he couldn't help but feel slight pity toward Kaden. Perhaps it would help the other man feel better. "...I disagree with many of the decisions my superiors made when they planned the gala." He shifted his gaze to some nearby enforcers. "Dressing the people meant to protect Regnum's citizens and strike fear into the hearts of its criminals as sex objects is an embarrassment for both them and the council. If they really wished to play dress-up for charity, they should've done so themselves." Of course, Inigo preferred to not dress up in such apparel, but it was a better alternative, in his opinion.

The secretary shifted his focus back to Kaden before continuing. "Sadly, it's likely we're in the minority. Many of the people I've spoken with are delighted by the enforcers' appearance—not to mention some of the enforcers are pleased by being able to get away with wearing scanty garments at a formal event." He shook his head and let out a sigh. Even if it was for charity, surely his superiors could've concocted a better plan to bring in more donations, hmm? Another sigh escaped Inigo's lips at the thought. Really, all this talk was bringing his mood down even more; it was likely affecting Kaden as well. "Regardless, it's obviously too late to change anything. It'd be better to make most of this night." Inigo signaled a nearby enforcer carrying a tray of glasses filled with champagne, taking one once he had made his way over. Once the enforcer had left, the young man took a sip from his glass before shifting his attention back to the other man, waiting to see how he'd respond.

Nervous hands had started to fiddle with the empty glass flute as he looked from Inigo and to the object he was holding. There was a sigh and he got ready for some sort of criticism on him for not holding his tongue. However, that was the exact opposite of what was said. His head tilted back up to look at the other man as something akin to a soft grin slid over his features. Well....that was better than being berated for his opinion on the matter. An eyebrow arched as Inigo went on to continue. He disagreed as well? A sense of relief rolled through Kaden's body at the thought that at least one other individual felt that way as well.

He could already feel that one glass getting to him, as his body felt slightly warmer than normal. This only made him fidget with the vest a bit as one of the waiters walked up. He hesitated for only a moment before relinquishing his glass and taking another from the plate that was being carried. A small grin and a head nod was the waiters thanks, before they were off to continue their rounds. He took a small sip as a way to gather his thoughts, though really it would end up doing the opposite, before he spoke up again. "I'm glad to at least have one other on my side. So thanks for that, even though you probably aren't supposed to speak bad of anything that the Council chooses to do." He knew that feeling.

There might've been some things that he didn't always agree with, but sometimes you just had to keep quiet and work through it. Speaking of the most of the night..."I heard that there were going to be a couple of performances? Care to get rid of the surprise for me?" He grinned almost slyly as his eyes flicked up to Inigo. But it seemed he wouldn't have the moment to answer for the lights started to dim as music started to sound out. Kaden's attention was drawn towards the stage and the grin started to slip from his face at what he saw. Fog machines and silhouettes. Well, that could only mean one thing and judging by the tempo of the music...yup.

Sure he may have never been to one before, but the was aware of what was going on. "...Definitely need to be drunk for this. Or at least not sober." Though of course, he was already past sobriety. He glanced at his glass with a grimace that equalled the one he had looked at the stage with. Did he really have to be here still? He could just head out? No one would know the difference if he was to start walking out. And these performances weren't something that he was entirely comfortable with in the first place. He gave a sigh before drinking the rest of the second flute; his eyes avoiding the stage and everything involved with it like it was the plague.

HERE'S TO EVERYTHING COMING TO NOTHING

Seeing Kaden embarrassment alleviated brought a slight smile to Inigo's face. He took another sip from his glass as the other spoke, his gaze remaining on him the entire time. After the scientist had finished speaking, he waited a few seconds before replying, "I am also entitled to my own views regardless whether the majority of the council disagrees." Unfortunately, there were plenty of people on the council who disagreed with the notion of freedom of speech, especially if it came from the mouth of a "lowly" secretary. The man very well knew that, if one of those people heard him, he'd be reprimanded. None were nearby, however, which is why he said what he did. Anyway, that matter was not worth mentioning to his conversation partner, so Inigo decided to wait and see if Kaden would change the subject. He couldn't help but frown at what the other man's choice of topic; though he had expected it, he wasn't exactly keen on what the higher-ups decided on.

Before Inigo could answer, however, the performance in question started. "Absolutely ludicrous," he muttered as he tore his eyes away from the erotic display. He deeply regretted having not pursued his efforts to have his superiors select something more tasteful. Instead, he kept his gaze trained on Kaden, curious to see how he'd react. Fortunately, he seemed to enjoy the performance as much as Inigo had—which was to say not at all. Inigo began to open his mouth to say that the scientist was all right to leave if he felt uncomfortable. However, he stopped himself from uttering a single sound as the man downed his second glass. Though he hadn't known Kaden for long, the man didn't quite appear the type who could hold his liquor. "Mr. Kno—Kaden, are you all right?" he asked in a concerned tone. "Do you need a glass of water?" Inigo had a feeling the scientist was likely to regret being buzzed—most people did. Even Inigo wasn't exempt, having had a particularly bad experience about a year ago. If he could sober Kaden up, he'd hopefully prevent him from undergoing the same thing.

He gave what had appeared to be a wry smile to what Inigo had to say. He supposed that was true. The council couldn't really stop someone from feeling the way they felt. They could only hope to stop the words said by threats. However, considering how much work the secretaries did do for them, Inigo had visited the science wing in place of the councilor that normally would, it wouldn't be wise for them to threaten. And then of course the performance had started. While Kaden had felt a brief satisfaction from hearing Inigo'd thoughts summed up in two words, it wasn't enough to stop him from downing the drink.

He wasn't particularly expecting what came next. The glass moved to one hand as he turned to look up at Inigo. And while his expression seemed to say that Inigo was crazy for suggesting that he wasn't fine, the hints of a light pinkness in his cheeks and slightly brighter eyes were indicators that it perhaps the alcohol was affecting him. He blinked owlishly at him for a few moments, before tilting his head slightly. "I'm fine? Why would you think anything but that?" With a glance away, he placed the glass on a tray as an enforcer walked by. "It's only two flutes..." in quick succession, "I'll be fine. Thanks for your concern though." His eyes landed on the stage once more and this time his nose crinkled as he saw just the Executive Enforcer up there. By now the crowd had grown much thicker, so it was easy for Kaden to turn slightly so he didn't have to look. "Dressing up like bunnies and now stripping. What's next? Lapdances?" His face went red at the thought and he shook his head in disappointment. What he had said was more or less muttered, but just the thought sent embarrassment flooding through his body.

HERE'S TO EVERYTHING COMING TO NOTHING

It was hard for any reasonable person to believe someone who just downed two glasses of alcohol within a short period of time could be "fine". Inigo was no exception—he was skeptical that Kaden was in good condition and didn't need water. The scientist's face was proof enough he was at the very least tipsy. Any more drinks and he could potentially become a walking disaster. Likely not a good idea given his status.

As Kaden was busy looking at the stage again, Inigo flagged down another waiter and requested two glasses of water. He was accompanying the other man for the night, so it was his responsibility to make sure their experience at the gala went smoothly. Or so to speak; the two agreed they could do without the stripping enforcers. Inigo shifted his gaze back to Kaden, his face scrunching up when the scientist mentioned the possibility of lap dances. He quickly glanced around, making sure none of the enforcers or his higher-ups were around to hear that. "Never mention that to the High Council," he said with a sigh, "You might give them ideas for the next big event."

Another sigh escaped Inigo's lips just as the aforementioned waiter brought back their waters. The young man gently lifted Kaden's and moved it closer to him. "Drink up. You can become dehydrated faster from having too much alcohol." He was certain the other man would be aware of this if his brain were functioning better than it currently was. The secretary lifted his own glass and took a sip, then continued talking, "You know, you're welcome to present your own suggestions for events to the High Council. I can picture you coming up with something both exciting and more tasteful than this." He gave the man a slightly smile. Inigo usually didn't give out compliments unless he meant it, as he wasn't the sort to sugar-coat things or lie to make someone feel better. Of course, he knew there was a chance Kaden could forget what he was told the following morning. Depending on how the rest of the night went, he'd possibly tell him again once he was completely sober.

At first, he was glad that what he had said hadn't been heard. But that didn't last too long and only a few moments later it was being commented on. He gave a small snort as he shook his head. His eyes left the stage as he glanced back to Inigo, this time turning to him so that he wouldn't even think of looking at the stage much longer. "No one has to worry about that. I wouldn't even toy with the thought of it." He gave a slight shiver and nearly grimaced. "I'd probably be forced to go if I had suggested such a thing."

When the waiter showed up, Kaden had blinked in confusion because he hadn't remembered ordering water...he wasn't that far gone, was he? But at what Inigo had to say, his thoughts were slightly comforted. Ahh, the other man must've ordered them then. He took the glass of water, though he didn't take a sip right away. Instead he raised an eyebrow. "It would take more than just two to do that though; unless I chose to have nothing to drink until tomorrow morning...then I probably would be fine?" He sounded unsure of what he was even saying. And for good reason. For never having really been drunk, he wasn't sure how the alcohol would fully affect him.

The next of what was said, did cause Kaden to fall into light snickers before he took a sip of the water. "Tasteful, yes. Exciting? That's debatable. They could've done a..." He paused as he tried to think about what they could've done. His eyebrows furrowed and his nose crinkled slightly as he came to realize that his thought process was going a little slower than normal. He lifted the drink to take a sip as he considers before letting the glass hang in one hand at his side. "...Silent auction? Have some of the artists in town make things that people could bet on. Wouldn't have the stripping. Could still have the music and it can still be a very social thing. Then of course, they could've left the museum open to explore." His face smoothed back out, as he glanced back up to Inigo's face. Sometime during his thinking, his eyes had drifted to stare straight ahead; which had made him stare at Inigo's chest instead. And while he might've been embarrassed while not tipsy, him being tipsy left out that mortification.

let's join forces,
we've got our guns and horses. i know you've been burned, but every fire is a lesson learned.
A soft "touché" left Inigo's lips, agreeing that the High Council would likely require Kaden to participate in whatever event he suggested, if it became approved. Placing the thought aside, he returned his focus to a more important subject: the other's health. He shook his head at the scientist's words, allowing a small sigh to slip through his lips. "Even still, I would advise against risking becoming dehydrated. Better safe than sorry, don't you agree?" he asked, brows furrowing as he gave the man a stern stare. "Furthermore," he continued, "the current atmosphere has a rather draining effect to those who remain here too long. Especially if something has brought them discomfort." Indigo eyes fell toward the area the striptease had occurred, then back to the man, giving him a knowing stare.

Regardless how Kaden reacted, Inigo decided to pay more attention to the suggestion he put out there. Perhaps if he kept the other man entertained, neglecting to bring up anything concerning his mental and physical states, he could nudge him toward keeping healthy without needing to be told. "A silent auction and free roam of the museum would be far preferable to that farce," he said with a caustic tone, eyes narrowing at the thought of that earlier display. "I'm certain most the guests here would disagree, but that's their own problem." Inigo shook his head and sighed again. "There seems to be less appreciation for the fine arts and culture nowadays. People are far more concerned about receiving constant entertainment and will abandon anything that attempts to educate them more than bring them thrills." He paused, decided not to say anymore so that he didn't appear to be rambling nor exclude his conversational partner.
